HOPE: Journey of Restoration

Safe shelter and counseling services

Shakti Milan Samaj (SMS) implements a dedicated intervention aimed at rescuing and rehabilitating young girls who have been internally trafficked within Nepal. Understanding the urgent and sensitive nature of such cases, SMS works in close coordination with the Anti-Human Trafficking Bureau (AHTB), relevant government agencies, and a network of stakeholders, including the Nepal Police, local government bodies, child protection units, and community-based organizations. This strong coordination mechanism ensures that rescue operations are carried out swiftly, safely, and with the utmost consideration for the survivor’s dignity and wellbeing. SMS also coordinates for safe shelter arrangements where girls receive immediate protection, medical check-ups, trauma-informed psychosocial counselling, and access to legal support for pursuing justice against perpetrators.

Post-rescue, SMS works alongside relevant stakeholders to ensure survivors are reintegrated into safe environments; either with their families (after thorough assessment) or through longer-term rehabilitation programs. The organization also engages with community leaders, school administrations, and local youth networks to reduce the risk of re-trafficking by creating protective and informed community systems. Through continuous dialogue, joint capacity-building workshops, and referral mechanisms with its partners, SMS ensures that rescue operations are not isolated actions but part of a larger, sustainable framework to combat internal trafficking. By fostering trust and cooperation among all actors involved, SMS strengthens Nepal’s collective response to trafficking, while ensuring that each rescued girl is given the safety, care, and opportunities she needs to heal and thrive.
