Empowering Women and Children against HIV/AIDS in Nepal
Shakti Milan Samaj (SMS) has been at the forefront of advancing the rights, dignity, and opportunities of women and children living with HIV/AIDS in Nepal through targeted and holistic interventions. Recognizing that stigma and discrimination remain major barriers to equality and care, SMS conducts youth-led campaigns across communities, schools, public spaces, and streets to raise awareness, challenge misconceptions, and inspire young people to become champions of change. These campaigns are designed to create an informed generation that actively works to end stigma and foster acceptance in society.
In parallel, SMS engages in strong advocacy efforts to influence education policy, calling for the integration of comprehensive and accurate information about HIV/AIDS into the national school curriculum. This ensures that young people receive factual, age-appropriate knowledge early on, empowering them to make informed decisions and fostering a culture of compassion and understanding from a young age. The organization also updates and facilitates interactive programs with health service providers, aiming to strengthen their knowledge, sensitivity, and capacity to deliver essential and non-discriminatory services to individuals living with HIV/AIDS. By building stronger linkages between service providers and communities, SMS helps ensure that those affected can access the medical, psychosocial, and support services they need without fear of bias or neglect.
Furthermore, SMS prioritizes the economic empowerment of women living with HIV/AIDS by providing entrepreneurship and livelihood training. These programs equip participants with the skills, resources, and confidence needed to start small businesses, generate sustainable income, and achieve greater independence. Through these combined efforts, SMS not only addresses the immediate challenges faced by women and children living with HIV/AIDS but also works towards building a more inclusive, informed, and equitable society.
